FAO says biofuels not good or bad but sustainable or not

In Italy, the Food and Agriculture Organization says that biofuels are like any other kind of agriculture in that the social and environmental sustainability of the production dictate whether or not they are positive or negative. It went on to say that the illusion of competition between food and fuel is a simple narrative for a complex issue that is not black or white. The country context where biofuels are produced and how they are produced within that context is what dictates if there is competition or not, or if biofuels are part of a wider matrix leading to food insecurity.
