India’s Southern Railway to go B5

In India, Southern Railway is preparing to follow National Railway’s lead and implement a 5% biodiesel blend for its locomotives. Already the Indian Oil Company is laying pipelines connecting the Diesel Loco Shed and the Tiruchi Goods Yard while 7 million liter biodiesel storage facility is being built at the shed, ready to come online in October. Biodiesel storage will also be built at the Diesel Loco Shed at Erode. Using biodiesel is expected to provide significant savings to the railway operators.
