US imports threaten Colombian ethanol expansion

In Colombia, the head of the national ethanol producers association has asked the government to not re-open ethanol imports from the US, saying imports risk the industry’s expansion opportunities as well as the future of the local sugarcane industry overall. Current production is at 1.2 million liters per day, which will increase by 400,000 liters per day with the commissioning of the new Riopaila distillery. Blending is currently at 8% but will go up to 9% when the new facility is online.
